Romania - Bucharest

Regional Travel Advice
- Petty theft is common, with pickpockets and bag snatchers operating in crowded areas, public transport and tourist sites, particularly in large cities like Bucharest. Organised attacks to steal items of personal value can involve children, and often use distraction. Take the usual precautions against this kind of activity by being vigilant, avoid carrying/wearing valuable items and keep belongings close to hand.- Credit card and internet fraud are growing in incidence and tourists should be wary when using credit and debit cards. Romania largely operates a “cash-only” economy; only use electronic payment methods with reputable vendors. If withdrawing money, be wary of ATM tampering: it is better to use cash machines inside banks.
